Drake was scheduled to play a free show at South Street Seaport in downtown NYC today from 6-9. Apparently that didn’t happen. More to come hopefully. 

UPDATE: Some small blogs have this story, some with pictures (some below). According to some sources riot police were called in to disperse the crowds. Drake may not have even been at the venue yet when it was called off.

Hanson (yes, the Umm Boppers) was scheduled to open. Drake’s album, Thank Me Later, dropped today. 

UPDATE 2: From MyFoxNY:

Crowds had begun gathering at 3 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show, but some fans were unruly and things began tp get out of hand, police said. A few fistfights broke out and some fans were pushing and shoviong each other up against barricades.

Thousands of fans packed the concert area at South Street Seaport’s Pier 17. Seaport management said in a statement that the crowds got so big that the situation wasn’t safe anymore.

UPDATE 3: A lengthy story of one nymag blogger’s evening is up. An excerpt:

Helicopters buzzed overhead. Standing across from the Seaport, we watched hundreds of kids suddenly went scrambling away from the stage area in terror. We asked one why he was running. “Mace,” he said.
